Is this Hell? And why am I in a handbasket?

Yesterday morning I woke up and Phoebe was wandering around the house telling everyone in a doleful voice, "Obama won." She's at the age where there's a certain sparkle to being the bearer of bad news. Unfortunately for her, the impact was muted since we already knew.

And to be honest, we weren't surprised. How do you compete with a fad? It's like trying to win a presidential race against Hannah Montana. How do ideas and plain common sense win out over pop-culture sparkle and vaporous pizazz?

Anyway, all day yesterday Emily had a post-it stuck to her back. It said 'I don't want to talk about Obama'. It was a good idea, and I'm thinking of doing it this whole week. Though my county went red this year (will wonders never cease?), loads of the people I know locally are Dems, and I'm just not in the mood for their gloating, my arguing, or the whole messy business.

I can take comfort in the fact that fresh dilemmas can now be Obama's problem, and at least Bush can go back to his ranch; he's earned a break.

I can look forward (in a back-handed way) to feeling smug when this 'savior' fails to make good on his promises of Utopia.

I can roll up my sleeves and stay alert, because there's hard work ahead, and dogged determination can do a lot, in spite of setbacks.

I can do all that, but not today. Today I'm tired, and rather discouraged, and about all I can say to the rising storm is, "Sorry, everybody! I voted for the other guy."

Hi! I saw your tag and I haven't gotten around to doing it yet, but I will! :)

Yeah, I don't drive to all the dances, so Asheville (that's where the OFB is right?) is too far away. :( I know some of the people from here in Winston go down there though, so I bet it's a lot of the same crowd!
